The New York (AL) Yankees toppled the Minnesota Twins by a 5 to 1 score at
Yankee Stadium.

New York (AL) took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Hideki Matsui initiated
the scoring spurt when he slapped a one-base hit. After another out, Melky
Cabrera came to bat and laced a base-knock. Derek Jeter then doubled. That
early scoring held up. Minnesota was out-hit by New York (AL), 11 hits to 4.

Andy Pettitte(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing
1 run. Brian Duensing(0-1) was given the loss. He allowed 10 hits and 4
walks in 6 innings.
