Tommy Hunter delivered 8 solid innings at Progressive Field as the Texas
Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 3 to 1.
Texas erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Julio Borbon began the
rally when he drew a walk. Michael Young stepped up to the plate and he
lashed a single. Nelson Cruz then ripped a base-knock to load the bases.
Marlon Byrd came up and he slapped a one-base hit. David Murphy came up to
bat and drew a walk to load the bases. Ian Kinsler did his part to keep
things going and grounded into a double play. Cleveland tried unsuccessfully
to come back in the 9th.
Hunter(1-0) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Hunter was helped
out by Darren O'Day who recorded his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Tony
Sipp(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
