Right fielder Hunter Pence blasted a homerun and Cole Hamels had an impressive
outing at Nationals Park where the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington
Nationals by the score of 4 to 0.

Philadelphia started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first scoring one runner on 2 hits. Shane Victorino drew a walk.
Placido Polanco was next and he grounded into a double play. Pence then
providing the offense himself as he belted a solo home run. John Mayberry Jr
followed and he was hit by a pitch. Carlos Ruiz came up to bat and stroked a
base-hit. That was all the runs Hamels(3-0) needed. Philadelphia had 14
hits for the afternoon.

Tom Gorzelanny(2-3) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 3
walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at
a division leading 12-7. With this loss, Washington has a 5-5 record of
late, 13-12 overall.
