Gio Gonzalez struck out 11 batters at Nationals Park as the Washington
Nationals beat the New York (NL) Mets 6 to 0.
Gonzalez(6-1) was simply too much for the New York (NL) batters. He
surrendered only 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.60
to 2.24. Washington rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Johan Santana(5-2). Gonzalez was jubilant in the
hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there. The fans gave me a lot
of support as did my teammates. We got the victory and I'll sure take 11
strikeouts anytime!'
