Left fielder Vernon Wells hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the New York
(AL) Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals by a score of 4 to 3 at Kauffman
Stadium.

New York (AL) claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs
on 3 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Wells who deflated the
crowd as he bombed a two-run dinger. Mariano Rivera was perfect in relief
and got the save, his 5th.

Hiroki Kuroda(5-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. The loss
was charged to Ervin Santana(6-1). 'I was a little good, a little bad and a
little ugly.' said Kuroda, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'
