Shelby Miller dominated striking out 12 Atlanta batters and Matt Carpenter had
4 hits and 5 RBI as the smoking-hot St. Louis Cardinals destroyed the Atlanta
Braves by a score of 18 to 3 at Turner Field.

Carpenter enjoyed a big day at the plate. He banged out a single in the 1st
inning, lined a base-hit bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning,
doubled scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning and lined a one-base hit
scoring a run in the 7th inning. St. Louis bats were very productive in the
1st inning when they had 7 runs on 7 hits and the 8th inning tallying 4 runs.
St. Louis had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6
separate innings.

The win went to Miller(3-0) who allowed 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Kris
Medlen(5-1) was hit with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 2
walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Miller, when asked about his 12 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
