At Fenway Park, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel. Tim Wakefield(1-2) finally bested his Texas counterpart, Doug
Mathis(0-1), by the score of 3 to 0.

Boston tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they came up with 3
base hits. That was all the runs Wakefield needed. Daniel Bard pitched a
perfect ninth to earn his 1st save.

Mathis took the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
