Right fielder Ryan Ludwick touched them all and had 2 RBI as the St. Louis
Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 4 at Nationals
Park.

St. Louis wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored
4 runs on 5 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Troy Glaus who
silenced Nationals Park as he lashed a single scoring two baserunners.
Washington threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was able to put down the
rally.

Todd Wellemeyer(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Jason Isringhausen was credited with his 1st save. John
Lannan(1-1) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6
runs in 5 innings.

'This was a tough loss,' said Lee Michaels, 'the kind that sticks with you for
awhile.'
