Daisuke Matsuzaka had a strong outing and Julio Lugo had 2 base hits and
scored 3 times as the Boston Redsox outscored the Seattle Mariners 9 to
0.

Boston started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first when they tallied 4 runs on 2 hits. That early scoring held up.
Boston totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.

Matsuzaka(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Jarrod Washburn(0-1) was the
loser. His biggest problem was control as he allowed 6 walks in 3 and 1/3
innings.

Craig Lombardi lamented, 'Matsuzaka was really aggressive today. He kept
coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one
after another - like so many bowling pins!'
