In a close game it was the Oakland A's 4, the Boston Redsox 2 at McAfee
Coliseum.

Rich Harden(1-0) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and
7 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings. Boston threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.

Brad Ziegler recorded his 1st save. Jon Lester(0-1) was given the loss. When
questioned about the loss, Andy Virostek said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
