The Chicago (AL) Whitesox came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil
the anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 4 to
3.

Chicago (AL) had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits.
After an out was recorded, Dewayne Wise got things going when he delivered a
one-base hit. Orlando Cabrera came next and he doubled. Alexei Ramirez then
would hit into a fielders choice. Carlos Quentin came up and he singled.
After another out, Jim Thome dug into the batters box next, but he struck
out. Matt Thornton(1-1) got relief help from Bobby Jenks who was excellent
in relief and gained credit for his 1st save.

Masa Kobayashi(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. After the game, it
took a long while before Andy Virostek emerged from his office. In a subdued
tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows,
sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll
understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in
the Chicago (AL) locker room.'
