WEB GEMS- Top 6th: John Buck blocked the plate, saving a run!

Gil Meche threw a complete game shutout and center fielder David Dejesus
cracked a homer and had 6 RBI as the Kansas City Royals defeated the slumping
Seattle Mariners by a score of 9 to 0 at Kauffman Stadium.

Dejesus was in a groove all day. He doubled which was good for two runs in
the 2nd inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of the season) in the 4th
inning and slapped a one-base hit plating two runs in the 7th inning. Kansas
City had 15 hits for the afternoon.

Meche(1-1) went the distance for the shutout. Miguel Batista(0-1) was hit with
the loss. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 walks.

'The ball was jumping off my bat' Dejesus said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
