Paul Konerko smashed 3 homeruns and Luis Vizcaino pitched 3 and one third
strong innings as the Chicago (AL) Whitesox defeated the Detroit Tigers by
the score of 8 to 4 at US Cellular Field.

Konerko provided much of the offense. He ripped a solo home run in the 3rd
inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 6th inning and smashed a
solo-shot out of the park (his 6th of the season) in the 7th inning. Chicago
(AL) totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.

The win was credited to Vizcaino(1-0) who went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no
runs. Vizcaino got help from Orlando Hernandez who was credited with his 1st
save. Mike Maroth(0-4) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 and 2/3
innings of work.

'I felt great out there today,' Konerko said, 'Maybe I should make a regular
habit of getting to bed on time!'
