Jason Varitek smacked a grand slam at Fenway Park where the Boston Redsox beat
the Oakland A's in 11 innings by the score of 9 to 8.

The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings. Finally, Boston pulled
the game out in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Bill Mueller
doubled. Varitek stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a one-base
hit. Cora got a good lead and stole second. Manny Ramirez was up next and
he stroked a base-hit giving Boston the win much to the delight of the home
town crowd. Both teams ended up with 14 hits on the night.

Jonathan Papelbon(4-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 4 and 2/3
innings. Huston Street(1-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3
