Kirk Saarloos allowed Lee Michaels to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and designated hitter Bobby Kielty had 4 hits and 3 RBI at McAfee
Coliseum where the Oakland A's beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 5 to
2.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Kielty. He singled which scored a run in the 1st inning, slapped
a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his
3rd of the season) in the 5th inning and laced a base-hit which plated a run
in the 7th inning. Oakland managed 12 hits in their victory.

Saarloos(3-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Mike Maroth(0-5)
was charged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up
12 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
