Endy Chavez jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI and Chris Jakubauskas
didn't allow a hit until the 9th inning as the Seattle Mariners defeated the
Chicago (AL) Whitesox by the score of 7 to 3 at US Cellular Field.

Chavez enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in
the 1st inning, ripped a base-knock knocking in a run in the 3rd inning and
doubled scoring a run in the 6th inning. Chicago (AL) had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Jakubauskas(1-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. The right-handed Jakubauskas had his no-hit bid broken up
by Dewayne Wise who doubled with nobody out in the 9th inning. Gavin
Floyd(0-4) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6
runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
