42,852 fans were treated to a fine game at Busch Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The St. Louis Cardinals won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

St. Louis promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they tallied
2 runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Allen Craig who made
the crowd come alive when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two
baserunners. Cincinnati tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Jake Westbrook(1-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory.
Jason Motte earned his 7th save. Johnny Cueto(4-3) was given the loss. He
gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
