Placido Polanco had 2 base hits as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston
Redsox in 11 innings by the score of 6 to 5 at Comerica Park.

Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings. Detroit came out the
victor in the 11th inning. Curtis Granderson ripped a one-base hit.
Granderson was safe at second on a stolen base. Polanco then laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Miguel Cabrera came up and he was walked intentionally.
Carlos Guillen was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Josh
Anderson kept things alive and laced a base-hit resulting in a mighty
exciting win for Detroit and the 20,288 home town fans in attendance.
Detroit totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.

Brandon Lyon(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Jonathan Papelbon(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.

'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Chris Couch sighed. 'That win feels like a tall,
cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'
