Kevin Slowey reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and Jason Kubel ripped 2
homeruns and had 3 RBI at Metrodome as the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit
Tigers 7 to 1.

Kubel had a big day at the plate. He cracked a solo homerun in the 4th inning
and popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 6th inning. Minnesota had 9
hits for the afternoon.

Slowey(1-0), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Rick
Porcello(1-2) suffered the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 6 innings.

John Thomas was asked about the performance of Slowey, 'He had his good stuff
out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
