Justin Verlander pitched a complete game and second baseman Placido Polanco
had 2 base hits as the Detroit Tigers topped the Boston Redsox by a score of
5 to 1 at Fenway Park.

Detroit wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they tallied
2 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was all that Verlander(1-2)
required. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs
scored after that point.

Tim Wakefield(0-2) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. With this win, Detroit has a
5-9 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Boston has a record of 7-8 after the
loss.
