WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Alex Avila blocked the plate, saving a run!

Zack Greinke tossed a complete game as the Kansas City Royals topped the
Detroit Tigers by a score of 4 to 1 at Kauffman Stadium.

Detroit fell behind quickly as the Kansas City offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Mitch
Maier began the rally when he stroked a one-base hit. Billy Butler stepped
up next and he ripped a base-hit. Mike Jacobs then drew a walk to load the
bases. Alberto Callaspo came up and he slapped a one-base hit. Alex Gordon
came to the plate and drew a walk. That early scoring was all that
Greinke(5-2) needed. Kansas City banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.

Rick Porcello(1-4) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 5 walks in
6 innings.
