impressive outing at SAFECO Field as the Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland
A's by the count of 3 to 1.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Branyan. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 2nd inning
and cracked a two-run shot in the 4th inning. Both teams ended up with 5
hits on the afternoon.

The win went to Vargas(3-1) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings. David
