In a dramatic ending at Tropicana Field the Tampa Bay ballclub won in their
last at-bat beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 6 to 4.

Tampa Bay erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Jorge Cantu
was the sparkplug when he stroked a base-hit. After another out, Jonny Gomes
came to the plate and bombed a two-run dinger (his 4th of the season) making
Tampa Bay the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Tampa Bay
had a total of 11 hits for the game.

Lance Carter(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Chris Spurling(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and
3 hits in 2 innings.

The Tampa Bay ballclub's record now stands at 9-17. With the loss, the Detroit
ballclub's record is 6-15, worst in the division.
