The Atlanta Braves nipped the New York (NL) Mets 3 to 2 at Turner Field in a
hard fought contest.

Atlanta claimed the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 2 runs on
1 hit. The critical plate appearance was by Chipper Jones who excited the
crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence. New York (NL) had 9
hits in the game while Atlanta had 4, but Atlanta had the more timely hits.

Derek Lowe(3-2) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Lowe got
relief help from Kenshin Kawakami who gained credit for his 1st save. Tim
Redding(0-1) took the loss. He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 3 innings.

'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Lowe, 'I was just
giving us a chance to win.'
