34,943 fans watched an exciting game at PNC Park. The St. Louis Cardinals
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Pittsburgh surrendered all of the runs St. Louis needed in the 3rd inning with
3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Brendan Ryan kicked off the action when he
smacked a single. Adam Wainwright stepped up next and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Ryan proceeded to steal third base. Skip Schumaker stepped
in and he hit a sacrifice fly. Colby Rasmus stepped into the box and lined a
base-hit. Albert Pujols added his contribution to the rally and was hit by a
pitch. Chris Duncan came next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Ryan
Ludwick then lined a single. That early run support was enough for
Wainwright(2-3) and St. Louis. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning
as neither team was able to score again.

Wainwright was helped out by Ryan Franklin who recorded his 8th save. Charlie
Morton(0-1) was charged with the loss. He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing
6 hits and 2 walks.

The St. Louis ballclub's record now stands at 8-9. With this loss, Pittsburgh
has a 1-1 record of late, 1-1 overall.
