At Busch Stadium, the St. Louis fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Paul
Maholm(1-0) finally bested his St. Louis opposite, Kyle Lohse(0-2), by the
score of 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh had the game winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs on 2
hits. Jack Wilson led off and he laced a one-base hit. Maholm next to the
plate and he reached on an error. Nate McLouth then banged out a single.
Andrew McCutchen was up next and he drew a walk. Freddy Sanchez was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out. Garrett Jones kept the inning going
and grounded into a double play. The teams had been locked in a scoreless
duel until the 7th inning.

Maholm got help from Evan Meek who earned his 1st save. Lohse took the loss.
He surrendered only 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.
