separated the combatants at game's end. The New York (AL) Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

The game was won by New York (AL) when they scored a run in the bottom of the
8th inning. After an out was recorded, Marcus Thames ripped a single. One
out later, Brett Gardner stepped up to the plate and he slapped a base-hit.
Derek Jeter then lined a single. Sergio Mitre(1-0) got relief help from
Mariano Rivera who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 6th
save.

Casey Janssen(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and no
walks in 2 innings.
