Second baseman Mike Aviles had 4 hits at Kauffman Stadium where the Kansas
City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers in 13 innings by the score of 6 to
5.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Kansas City came
out on top in the 13th inning. Jason Kendall was hit by a pitch. After an
out was recorded, Billy Butler came up and he was walked intentionally.
Wilson Betemit then drew a walk to load the bases. Alex Gordon followed next
and he drew a walk making Kansas City the victors to the delight of the home
town faithful. Kansas City and Detroit each finished the afternoon with 15
hits.

Sean O'Sullivan(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Jose Valverde(1-3) took the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 1 hit and no walks.
